David Tennent Hunting Safaris

We have just finished our first hunting safari of the year. Our client, Reza, from Iran hunted with us for 4 days. His first animal was a White Blesbuck.

It was his first African Hunting Safari and his first South Africa Hunting Safari.  We hunted in the Free State Province.

We spotted a large herd of Common and White Blesbuck from the vehicle and climbed off to start our approach on foot.  We crept to a small ridge and found that the blesbuck had not seen us at all and were actually running towards us.  We did not know which side of the ridge they would emerge from so we had to stay put and out of sight. The Blesbuck suddenly appeared to our left.  We repositioned ourselves and waited for a good Blesbuck to appear.  Unfortunately there were no good Common Blesbuck in the herd but a good White Blesbuck ram was bringing up the tail end of the herd.  Reza decided to take the ram.  The shooting sticks were set up and he waited for the White Blesbuck ram to give him a good broadside shot.  The ram turned broadside and Reza took the opportunity to shoot.  Unfortunately, he shot over the back of the ram, but, not knowing where the shot came from, the ram started towards us and again stood broadside.  This time Reza made no mistake and put in an excellent shot.

Reza took another 3 animals on his African Hunting Safari.  I will relate these hunting stories soon - the Cape Eland hunt was both difficult and trying!  More to come….

This is the first in a series of articles to keep our clients and potential clients up to date with the latest news from David Tennent Hunting Safaris and of our clients hunting with us, while on safari. We will also be writing articles about our past clients who we shared many great hunting experiences with and all the weird and wonderful things that happened to us while Hunting South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe .

The year is starting early for us as we have a client and possibly a friend of his, coming out early in February for a short Safari of 4/5 days. We will be hunting in the Free-State province of South Africa . Our client will be hunting Eland, Gemsbuck and Springbuck with the option of hunting Black Wildebeest and Zebra. He will be using my .375 H&H loaded with 300gr Hornady Interlock Bullets or my 30-06 loaded with 180gr Hornady Interlock Bullets.

We have booked a good number of African Hunting Safaris this year. We have an interesting safari in July with 2 couples coming out to hunt the Free-State province with us. They will be hunting with both Rifle and Bow for Springbuck, Black Wildebeest, Gemsbuck, Impala, Zebra, just to name a few of the species that they would like to take. We will be trying to take most of the animal species with the bows. Their South African Hunting Safari will be for 10 days so we will have enough time to take great trophies. We at David Tennent Hunting Safaris are certainly looking forward to this hunting safari with our old friend Craig, his wife and friends.

For those interested, for the 2009 Hunting season we have Elephant, Lion and Buffalo available. The buffalo are going very quickly due to the high demand. We do have a special on a Buffalo Bull and Buffalo Cow combination. Please drop us an email should you want to hunt these buffalo or any of the other Big Five.
